      Choosing the Right Cutlery Grade

The grade of stainless steel in your cutlery affects durability, corrosion resistance, appearance and long-term cost per cover. Here is how the two grades compare.

      FAQs

What is the difference between 18/10 and 18/0 stainless steel cutlery?

18/10 stainless steel contains 10% nickel, giving it higher corrosion resistance and a brighter, more durable finish. 18/0 contains no nickel, making it more affordable but slightly more susceptible to pitting and staining over time. For high-volume commercial operations with heavy dishwasher use, 18/10 is the stronger long-term investment. See our guide on caring for 18/0 stainless steel for material-specific maintenance advice.

How many pieces of cutlery do I need per cover?

A standard table setting typically includes a table knife, table fork, dessert spoon, dessert fork, teaspoon and soup spoon, which is six pieces per cover as a baseline. Venues with extended menus may also need steak knives or additional serving utensils. Most operators order two to three times their seated cover count to allow for service turnover and wash cycles.

Can commercial cutlery go in the dishwasher?

Yes. Most commercial cutlery, particularly 18/10 stainless steel, is designed for high-frequency commercial dishwasher use. To reduce spotting and corrosion, avoid leaving pieces soaking in water and ensure they are dried promptly after washing.

Do you sell cutlery sets or individual pieces?

Both. Reward Hospitality offers complete cutlery sets as well as individual pieces sold by the dozen, so venues can top up specific piece types without replacing an entire range. Browse the full tabletop range to see what’s available.

What is the best cutlery for a restaurant?

For most restaurants, 18/10 stainless steel is the best all-round choice. It’s durable, dishwasher-safe and holds its finish under heavy use. Popular restaurant-grade options include Tablekraft, Amefa and Pro.mundi, with styles ranging from mirror to satin finishes across classic and contemporary profiles. See our guide to selecting the right cutlery for a full breakdown.

Does the weight of commercial cutlery matter?

Yes. Heavier cutlery, typically 18/10 stainless steel, feels more substantial in the hand and is associated with higher-end dining. Lighter 18/0 cutlery suits fast-casual and high-turnover venues where ease of handling and lower cost per piece take priority. Weight also correlates with thickness and long-term durability.

What is the difference between a mirror and satin finish on commercial cutlery?

A mirror finish is high-gloss and reflective, giving a classic polished look suited to formal dining and hotel settings. A satin finish is brushed and matte, with a contemporary appearance that is better at hiding minor scratches and water marks over time. Both finishes are available across our commercial cutlery range. New to commercial tableware? Our cutlery jargon guide is a quick reference for buyers comparing options for the first time.
